Muong Hum

The market in the tiny town of Muong Hum is one of the smaller markets in the area. Watch hilltribes such as the Ha Nhi, Hmong and Dzao trade local goods. The market in Muong Hum is not too often visited by tourists.This makes a visit to this sunday market a very special experience.

 

Muong Hum is about 45km away from Sapa (1,5 hours). The only possible transportation to Muong Hum is by private car. The road to Muong Hum is stunning and on a trip to this market we will stop a few times on the way to take pictures en explore the local villages.

MARKET TOURS SAPA

In the area around Sapa there a several local markets. Different small towns have a market each week on the same day. Visiting one of these markets makes an ideal daytrip. If you are interested in the different ethnic minority groups of Vietnam a visit to one of these markets is a must. You can watch colourful ethnic minority groups, such as the Flower Hmong, trade there goods and buy local handicrafts. I would love to show you around in one of these wonderful market-towns. Most markets start around 7.30 and are finished around 13.00 so it is recommended to start the market tours from Sapa early.

The Sunday market in Bac Hai is one of the largest and most famous markets in the north of Vietnam.Every Sunday villagers from the area come to this market to trade goods such as handicrafts, life stock, vegatables and herbs. 

 

On the market you will witness the most bright and colourful dresses of the Flower Hmong ladies. You will also be able to meet hilltribes such as the Giay, Tay and Nung.

 

Bac Ha is located approximately 110km (2,5 hours) from Sapa. You can either choose a private car or shared mini-van to go to this wonderful market.

Coc Ly Market is located a bit less then 100km from Sapa. Every tuesday people from surrounding villages come to this town to trade goods such as life stock, handicrafts and food. In Coc Ly you can meet ethnic minority groups such as the colourful Flower Hmong, Tay, Nung and Giay.

 

The vibe of the market is a bit simalar to the one in Bac Ha, although this market is smaller and is less frequented by tourists. 

Coc Ly is about 2 hours driving from Sapa by private car.

Can Cau

Can Cau Market is a vibrant saturday market close to the Chinese border. Every saturday people from all around the area come here to trade goods such as life stock, handicrafts, herbs and food. Just like on it's bigger brother in Bac Ha you will see Flower Hmong, Giay, Tay and Nung on the Can Cau Market. 

 

Although Can Cau is just 25km out of Bac Ha, this market is less touristy and has a more authentic feeling. 

 

The market can only be visited by private car. On the way back we will have lunch in Bac Ha and we will visit the village of Ban Pho.
